A Brief Introduction and History of the Victoria Angling Club
The Victoria Angling Club - Newcastle-under-Lyme, was established in 1982, by 5 friends who used to go fishing together, and were Members of other Angling Clubs and Associations.
These were Hector Dibble and Clive Hutter, who, unfortunately, are no longer with us, Stuart Hulse Snr, who now lives in Australia, Nigel Woodcock, our ex Club President, and Barry Simpson, who has been the Club Secretary ever since day one.
When it all began, some 28 years ago, the Club had NO waters, NO money and NO members, but, what we did have, was enthusiasm, and belief in what we were doing.
From such small beginings, the Club now boasts a portfolio of 8 Lakes and Pools, all within the Madeley/Onneley area of South Cheshire, but only 5 miles from the centre of Newcastle-under-Lyme, which are all mixed fisheries, but all contain specimen fish of various species, with ease of access and car parking.
Membership now stands at over 230, but please don't be put off by this figure, as you can go to any of our waters and will very rarely find any one of them full, but, if you do, with the waters being all in a localised area, it is not a problem to move on to one of the other sites.
It is, and always has been, Club Policy to be on the lookout for further waters to add to the collection, but the Committee have always viewed each such water on its own merits, whether it would add anything new, or different, to what the Club has to offer, and we have never taken anything on just to have it "in the books".
The Committee are elected by the Club Members at the Annual General Meeting, which is held in November each year, to run the Club on their behalf, and that is exactly what happens, which may not always be the case elsewhere.
Should you decide that you would like to become a Member of the Victoria Angling Club, please remember that it is "your Club", and is a Club where every Member has a share, and is given the opportunity to raise any questions that may be bothering them, or to make suggestions about any aspect in the running of the Club.
When you pay your Subscription Fee, you can do so in the knowledge that you are joining a Club, run by Anglers, for Anglers, and in which you have a voice.
